━━━ THE COMPLETE LINK

Ground station and airborne receiver — C2 + Data Link.

Up to 250 km LOS · ~25 ms latency · AES 128 · FHSS 40 hops/s

WMX481V3 – GROUND STATION

The WMX481V3 is the transmitter module at the ground station, providing bidirectional encrypted communication. Connects to any ground control station, operator console or PC via USB or Ethernet — including all XLRS GCS platforms and third-party systems. Simultaneously transmits RC commands, MAVLink telemetry and transparent data to the vehicle. The transparent data link passes any serial or IP payload verbatim between ground and vehicle — no protocol conversion required. The 4.3″ TFT touchscreen displays real-time link status: RSSI (TX and RX), active frequency, FHSS channel, packet quality and interface activity, with acoustic alarms for critical conditions.

For maximum-range operations, the WMX481V3 integrates with the SATPROV3 antenna tracker via RCBus and Ethernet, keeping the directional antenna automatically aligned with the vehicle for a robust link throughout the mission. All radio parameters can be configured — and the link monitored on a real-time dashboard that mirrors the onboard display — from any connected PC via XLRS_WMX481 software.

RXLRS – AIRBORNE RECEIVER

The RXLRS is the professional airborne receiver — ultra-compact and designed for direct integration on the vehicle. It receives the C2 and data link from the WMX481V3 and drives the platform directly: 8 PWM servo channels for standard RC, plus an SPPM/CPPM serial output carrying up to 16 RC channels on a single wire to the autopilot. Its dedicated port is a transparent radio modem (TTL serial) — it carries MAVLink telemetry, or any serial protocol, so any autopilot can connect at a configurable rate from 9.600 to 115.200 baud (38.400 by default), with no additional radio modem required.

Mixing, button activation and encoder assignment are configured in the receiver rather than in the transmitter. This removes model selection and any limit on the number of platforms per transmitter — translating into faster setup and fewer operational errors in the field. Channel configuration and lost-link behaviour are stored in the receiver and fully programmable via XLRS_RXLRS or DMDStudio software.

Redundant configuration available: A WMX481RV3 (dual-transmitter module) can be deployed at the ground station for hardware-level TX redundancy. On the vehicle, two RXLRS units can operate simultaneously on the same or different frequency bands, each independently maintaining the C2 link.

WMX481V3 + RXLRS are supplied as the KITWMX481V3. The kit includes the WMX481V3 transmitter — with BQ89 or Moxon MX433 antenna depending on the selected frequency — and the RXLRS receiver. Quotation available on request.

━━━ LINK SECURITY

Multiple independent protection layers.

The radio link between the WMX481V3 and the RXLRS combines several independent layers of protection — each addressing a different threat to the integrity and confidentiality of the C2 link.

FHSS

Frequency-hopping spread spectrum at 40 hops per second. The link constantly changes frequency, making it resistant to interference and jamming.

PRIVATE FHSS CODE

A private hopping-sequence code shared only by the paired transmitter and receiver. Once loaded into the device it is never displayed again.

AES 128-BIT

Packet-level encryption of RC commands, telemetry and data — protecting the link content against interception.

AUTHORIZED EQUIPMENT LIST

RF IP filtering: only transmitters or subnets on the whitelist are accepted by the receiver — blocking unauthorized devices from the link.

━━━ THE PRODUCT

One link. RC, telemetry and data.

The WMX481V3 is a professional long-range C2 (Command & Control) and data link system. It transmits RC commands and provides a fully transparent data link — carrying telemetry (MAVLink or transparent serial/IP) and any other data in both directions — over a single AES128-encrypted channel operating in the 863–950 MHz or 433 MHz bands.

The system integrates natively with XLRS ground control stations — GCSD5, GCSD5DUAL and XPAD controllers — connecting via RCBus and Ethernet. All joystick, button and switch inputs from the ground control station are transmitted directly to the RXLRS on the vehicle, with no intermediate conversion or external interface.

Alternatively, because the link is fully transparent, an integrator can command the platform entirely from their own ground control station or PC software — over USB or Ethernet, with no additional hardware and no XLRS controller in the loop.

In either configuration, the WMX481V3 can operate as a standalone C2 + data link or as a redundant link within a larger system. Civilian and military programs that require it, either by regulation or their own security policies, need a simple C2 system with one TX module (WMX481V3) or more secure and robust systems with redundancy, such as two TX modules (WMX481RV3), which provides the operator with immediate manual control at the hardware level at any point during the mission.

━━━ WHY WMX481V3

Designed for missions where the link can’t fail.

EUROPEAN RF DESIGN

Designed, manufactured and supported in Spain (EU). Full control of RF engineering, firmware and integration — not a repackaged third-party module.

AES 128-BIT ENCRYPTED

RC commands, MAVLink telemetry and data link are all encrypted. Designed for operations where link security is non-negotiable.

FHSS RESILIENCE

40 frequency hops per second across the 863–950 MHz and/or 433 MHz bands, depending on configuration. Designed to maintain the link in RF-contested or interference-prone environments.

NATIVE ECOSYSTEM INTEGRATION

Native RCBus connection to GCSD5, GCSD5DUAL, SATPROV3 and XPAD controllers for RF parameter monitoring, device status and inter-system alarms. Ethernet connection is also available between XLRS devices, but RCBus is required for XLRS ecosystem data exchange.

━━━ CONNECTIVITY & INTERFACES

Connects to your GCS, your PC and your autopilot.

USB (MICRO-B)

Configuration · commands · transparent data link / Mavlink

Direct PC connection. Configure the system and change radio parameters and send or receive commands through XLRS_WMX481 software. The same port can carry the transparent data link and telemetry to Mission Planner, QGroundControl or any compatible GCS; being fully transparent, it also supports any client-developed or third-party application that works with the data being transmitted.

ETHERNET (RJ45)

Transparent data link / MAVLink · commands · multiple sockets · XLRS Devices

Transparent / MAVLink data link and telemetry over the network, with the same command and parameter control via XLRS_WMX481 software. Up to 8 simultaneous network sockets are supported, and each socket can be configured independently for commands or for telemetry — for example, one port dedicated to control and another to the telemetry stream.

Via Ethernet you can connect directly to XLRS devices: GCSD5, GCSD5DUAL, XPADs, as well as the SATPROV3 antenna tracker.

RCBUS

Second channel for communication redundancy

It can be used as redundancy to Ethernet if required to provide greater robustness to the entire system during the mission and to have a second communication channel for safety. RCBUS is a proprietary XLRS interface that connects directly to XLRS devices: GCSD5, GCSD5DUAL, XPAD and SATRPVO3.

━━━ PC & GCS INTEGRATION

Control from a PC. No dedicated RC transmitter required.

Because the data link is fully transparent, an integrator can build their own ground control station and command the vehicle directly — with no XLRS controller required. Using a documented API command sent over USB or Ethernet, the WMX481V3 reads the position of each joystick, switch and button on the operator’s own hardware, forwards those values across the encrypted RF link, and the RXLRS reproduces them as RC outputs on the vehicle.

The same interface returns the telemetry stream to a PC running Mission Planner, QGroundControl, UgCS or any custom application. Over Ethernet, up to 8 simultaneous sockets are supported, and each can be assigned independently to commands or to telemetry — for example one port for control and another for the telemetry stream. Vehicle control and telemetry therefore pass through a standard PC or network interface, making the WMX481V3 the natural integration point for ground control stations, operator consoles and simulation environments — with no additional hardware.

━━━ WMX481RV3 — REDUNDANT C2

Two independent RF modules. No single point of failure.

For missions where C2 link failure is not an option.

WMX481RV3 — REDUNDANT C2

Integrates two fully independent RF modules — each with its own microcontroller — operating simultaneously on different frequencies or bands (e.g. 433 MHz and 915 MHz, or 903 MHz and 915 MHz) to maximise resistance to interference and RF signal reflections. Redundancy operates at two levels: packet by packet in real time — if a single radio packet fails on one link, it is recovered from the other — and at system level, switching fully to the secondary link if a module or receiver suffers a continuous failure. In both cases, command and telemetry continue without interruption to the operator or the autopilot.

IMPROVED WORKING RANGE

A single link is normally worked at around 50% of its maximum range; a redundant system raises the recommended working range to approximately 80%. On a 250 km LOS configuration, that extends the usable working range from about 125 km to up to ~200 km — according to configuration and conditions. SATPROV3 antenna tracker recommended for maximum range.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

EASA SORA requires the C2 link to maintain defined standards of continuity, availability and integrity throughout the operation. The WMX481RV3 dual-link architecture directly supports SORA OSO#6 compliance for BVLOS operations, and is specified for high-value UAV, defence and security programmes where link redundancy is a programme requirement.

REAL-TIME SWITCHOVER

Protects against interference, fading and reflections. Millisecond-level switchover keeps command and telemetry flowing with minimal disruption to the operator and autopilot. Requires 2× RXLRS receivers onboard.

THE COMPLETE C2 SYSTEM

The WMX481V3 is the RF C2 link — the channel through which command authority travels from the ground station to the platform. It satisfies SORA OSO#6 C2 link performance requirements: continuity, latency and integrity. For complete command authority at the ground station, pair it with a GCSD5 or GCSD5DUAL — dedicated physical control hardware designed for OS-independent operation.
