[ps2id id=’DataLink’ target=”/]Data Link & Radio control

Products: WMX481, BTSD1 V3 and DL1 V2.

The transparent radio modems have a 100kb RF bandwidth, AES encryption and FHSS frequency hopping.

Usual use: Bidirectional and transparent Long Range data link + RC + telemetry up to 250km LOS range.

Two models: WMX481 V3 and redundant WMX481R V3
USB, RCBus and Ethernet interface.

WMX481 V3

Usual use: Bidirectional and transparent data link up to 25-50km LOS. 100Km maximum range. Option 200Km range.

The transparent DL1 V2 radio modems have a 100kb RF bandwidth and usually 115kb via USB, with  WIFI and battery, they are small and suitable for sending and receiving Mavlink telemetry directly with a PC with Mission planner, QGround Control or other software to a drone, UAV or microcontroller. In the part of the drone it will use the DL1 receiver.

DL1 V2

The BTSD1 model in addition to the transparent radio modem system can be connected to the PWM or PPM port of a radio control station. In this way, it is possible to increase the range of a standard RC station from 1km to 25-50Km using the built-in 5Dbi antennas. In the part of the drone or UAV it will use a RXLRS receiver with which it will be able to have simultaneous telemetry and radio control.

BTSD1 V3

The BTSD1 and DL1 transmitter modules are similar.
They have a small color display and encoder for menu, to check and monitor the status of the connection, RSSI% packets, etc. This marks an important difference with other radio modems of the competition in which you never know what happens with the radio link, you don’t see the coverage or if it is critical, with which you can have a link at the time of takeoff and then not be able to halfway completing the mission and the danger of losing the drone or plane, the return home isn’t always effective.

The range is similar to the XPAD2, on demand it can be increased by software to have all the power and sensitivity possible. If you change the antennas you can increase the range up to 100km. Option 200km available.

BTSD1 V3:  Data Link + RC 25 to 50km 500mW -110dBm sensitivity.  Status: Production
DL1 V2:      Data Link.        25 to 50km 500mW -110dBm sensitivity.  Status: Production

On demand and with the same antennas it can be increased to: 25 to 50km 1000W -116dBm sensitivity.
If you change the antennas with the maximum settings you can increase the range up to 200km. The image shows a configuration with a BQ89 antenna.

It is the most economical product line.

The basic difference between the two is that the DL1 only sends and receives telemetry or data for example for automatic flight and the D1 can also send radio control data and control servos in the receiver, expanding the range of a standard RC transmitter, adding telemetry.

If your budget is limited this is a good option to achieve more for less money.

DL1 V2 and BTSD1 V3 have a battery and are charged by USB.
Make sure that the PC has enough current (0.5A preferably 1A) in the USB port or it will not transmit with enough power.
They are configured through USB with the DMD_Studio software.

For more info: D1 System.

[ps2id id=’Remote_Controllers’ target=”/]Long Range RC Remote Controls

Products: XPAD1 , XPAD2 and XPAD3.

XPAD1 handheld remote controller

Usual use: Work flights up to 50km.

XPADs Remote Controllers are portable and very suitable when the pilot must fly in the field for LOS (Line Of Sight) flights.
The ranges are less than the GCS especially for the XPAD1 and XPAD2 that reaches 25-50km. The XPAD3 although we give a range to 100 km, the radio is the same as the CGSD4, with a maximum range of 200 km but another type of smaller antenna is used and that reduces the range, it can reach more but it doesn’t make much sense to a portable station:

XPAD1: work 25km 500mW -110dBm sensitivity.  Max range: 100Km

XPAD2: work 25km 500mW -110dBm sensitivity.  Max range: 100Km
XPAD3: work 50km 1000W  -116dBm sensitivity.  Max range: 200Km

The compatible receiver is RXLRS which is the same for GCS and XPADs.

The XPad1 is basically the most economical and small remote controller with mini joysticks more prepared for drone but it can be used with airplanes since it has intelligent progressive throttle control. The range is equal to the XPAD2.

The basic difference between the XPAD2 and XPAD3 is that the XPAD2 has a minimalist design compared to the XPAD3 that has many buttons and 3 displays and is somewhat larger, also the range of the XPAD3 is greater and having more switches and buttons is capable of doing more things with the mixes in the RXLRS receiver.

The XPADs are supplied in robust watertight cases for easy transport.
Battery with duration of 6h for XPAD2 and 8 hours according to equipment, charging by USB.
The radio control system works with 2 microcontrollers for the Joysticks and 1 for the central system.

You can connect to PC or mobile devices via USB or Bluetooth to configure the mission and view telemetry and maps.
A PC will serve for the configuration of the XLRS system with the DMD_Studio software.
They have an accessory to carry a 7” monitor for video. It can be assembled and disassembled in seconds.
For navigation and telemetry, a tablet or mobile phone can be attached.

[ps2id id=’GCS’ target=”/]Portable GCS. Ground Control Stations

Products: GCSD4V2+, GCSD5, GCSD4DUAL and GCSD5DUAL.

Usual use:

Medium or long range flights up to 250km.

Where they are used:

Portable GCSs are typically used at a selected location in the field for LOS (Line Of Sight) flights.
In some cases they can be installed in vehicles or conditioned containers.
Now, SATPRO can be used as an antenna, portable or vehicle tracker.

The GCS are portable, the pilot must normally be seated in front of the ground control station, there is a special tripod to comfortably use the GCS.
They are also used to increase the security of the radio link as much as possible on shorter distance flights, for example from 1 to 30 km.
Other pilots simply prefer to use a robust GCS in all circumstances, it is easy to transport and is safer than an RC transmitter or handheld remote controller.

Control panels:

If you need to use the GCS in a vehicle and a suitcase is not suitable, you will surely need to use Control Panels CPD4, CPD5, which will be available soon. (Consult).
A Control panel uses practically the same technology as a suitcase but without a suitcase and prepared for use in a table or control desk with fixed power supply, the battery is there as a security in case of power failure.
If you need Control Panels or carry out NLOS flights with a repeater, please contact sales@dmd.es

Some outstanding features:

The Radio Control Base Stations are supplied embedded in robust IP67 cases with integrated PC and Windows 10.
The PC of GCSD4 Dual and GCSD5 is much more powerful than GCSD4.
Screen independent from the PC for analog or digital video.
They use an internal LiOn battery with a battery life of 3.5 to 12 hours depending on configuration.
A microcontroller measures the voltage, consumption and temperature of the battery, controls the power distribution and ventilation system and communications.
The radio control system works with 3 microcontrollers and for security reasons it is independent from the PC.
The PC uses Mission Planner or Qground Control software to set up the mission and view telemetry and maps.
The PC is also used for XLRS system configuration with the DMD_Studio software.
The supported receiver is RXLRS, RXLRS+, which is the same for GCS and XPAD.

Types of Ground Control Station

GCS with internal radio modem (RC and telemetry):

Currently, the GCS are independent from the Data Link and video system.
They have a Windows PC
They are equipped for automatic and manual flight.
They serve for any type of vehicle Drones, UAV, UGS, USV, etc.
You can use XLRS Data Links such as WMX481 with maximum ranges of 250Km or your own Data Link from any other brand.

Video: optionally you can use XVID with analog video. It is very economical, has good range, lower resolution than digital video and power and use may be restricted in some countries (please consult local regulations).

If you need Full HD and long-range video, one option is the GCS and SATPRO with Full HD digital video.

Tactical Ground Control Station D5 (GCSD5) with Smart Antenna Tracker (SATPRO) up to 200km

GCS with SATPRO:

GCS can use SATPRO or Smart Antenna Tracker. This has the radio part for RC and telemetry like the Data Link WMX481 or another brand of Data Link and if there is an independent video system it can be used for Full HD XVHD_SAT up to 150Km or XVID analog video which is economical and long range up to 100Km or more depending on the band selected.
SATPRO is usually at a distance of 7m (RCBus) from the ground control station.
SATPRO V2 via Ethernet can be much further away without problems, for example for fixed installations.
There is no RF loss since the Data Link is mounted very close to the antennas on the SATPRO
Connections between SATPRO and GCS can be wired (Ethernet, RCBus) or wireless, including digital video with 60Ghz radio link without delay.

GCSD4 vs GCSD5

Basically they differ in the size of the suitcase, PC power, handling comfort and autonomy.
GCSD4 is to be used in missions with an approximate duration of 4h and 150km of travel.
GCSD5 is designed to be used in missions with a duration of 6h and 250Km of travel.
The GCSD4 is small in size and light in weight, well suited for taking it to hard-to-reach places.
GCSD5 is bigger, more comfortable to fly longer and the PC is more powerful.
More info…

Radio Modem RC and telemetry, normal or redundant

GCS with SATPRO there is the option of a single or redundant radio link with 2 different frequency bands.
The redundant system increases the security of the radio link against external interference by working in two different bands and increases the working range from 15% to 30% depending on the installation and options. Instead it is somewhat more complex.
If you need to get more scope, contact sales@dmd.es.

GCS Dual

When to choose a Ground Control Dual?
It is necessary when there is a pilot and co-pilot or pilot and observer.
There is a version with radio modem included or for SATPRO. With SATPRO you can choose redundant or not.
The GCSD4 Dual is more complete and much larger and heavier than the GCSD4.

The dual monitors are 23″ compared to the 10″ of the simple. Currently in production. More info…

The GCSD5 Dual is the most powerful and complete to date. The 23″ monitors have been upgraded from the dual GCSD4. Currently in production.

The observer part usually controls the video cameras on board the vehicle.

[ps2id id=’SATPRO’ target=”/]SATPRO Smart Antenna Tracker

When do you need a SATPRO?

– In fixed installations.
– In vehicles equipped with Ground control station.
– If you use long range analog video, >50Km is recommended.
– When you use long range digital video 30 to 150Km.

It can be used in other conditions, for example, so that the pilot does not have to manually orient the high gain antennas. More info…
