XLRS Full Redundant System 2024
Today I am going to present you a professional portable XLRS Full redundant system that I would buy to fly safely and with a maximum range of 150Km for full HD video.
With this XLRS system you can automatically and manually fly drones and UAVs, but of course you can control any other type of vehicle.
In the article there is no space to explain the entire XLRS system, so that it does not become boring, I will highlight what in my opinion is most relevant, then you can always access the links to see more details or download the data sheet for each product.
The XLRS Full redundant system consists of several elements that I will describe and comment on below:

1.- GCSD5, Base station with Windows PC included
It is a base station that any pilot would like to have, at least I like it a lot.
Robust, with multiprocessor technology, multiple interfaces and a very cool design with personality.
There is a panel version for fixed systems and the new handheld version is being prepared: XPAD5.
The Windows PC is included, with a 7″ Full HD touch display and another display where you can watch the Full HD video or function as the PC’s second display.
You have at your disposal a 4.3″ color TFT display for central control and 3 auxiliary 1.5″ TFT color displays.
Likewise, 2 magnetic joysticks, 1 joystick for video control, 2 micro joysticks, encoders, potentiometers and multiple buttons and switches for precise control of the vehicle elements.

Note carefully, this base station is not a cheap integration of several products. It is a product carefully designed and manufactured specifically for the function of controlling a UAV, drone or advanced vehicle.
On the connection panel you have several interfaces that will cover most needs:
• The main key switch with its LED.

• The battery charging connector that you can use while the system is running.
• 2 USB.
• 2 Ethernet
• A jack with SPPM INP and OUT.
On the left side you have a robust RCBus connection for the SATPRO and additional XLRS peripherals.
The control display clearly shows you by area the information you need to know that everything is going well.
Distributed in 4 areas:
• Data Link or radio systems, BTSD1 or WMX481.
• SATPRO Tracker Antenna data.
• GCSD5 data.
• Supervision of alarms and systems.
There are many details of the radio frequency or Data Link system, both Radio Control (RC) and Telemetry with graphical RSSI level and in calibrated dBm, % data packets, radio noise, etc. From the base station and the vehicle.
In the antenna tracker section you can see the position, battery level, temperature, etc.
The GCSD5 part shows various parameters such as the status of the Joystick system, RCBus communications, battery, etc.
And at the bottom we have the supervision of alarms and systems with multiple messages with different colors classified by type or danger, in addition to audible warnings.

2.-XPAD1W
This option is not essential, although it is useful for many pilots when they are far from the takeoff and landing point and want to be nearby at those times, with a small remote controller landing or taking off.
It connects to the GCSD5 or base station by Wifi or by cable with RCBus.
XPAD1W It is minimalist, small and very effective.
The mini Joysticks can operate in normal or incremental mode. This is used to control the motor.
But They are suitable mini Joysticks for your application, no problem, you can use a classic XPAD2 or soon we will have an updated XPAD2 that will surely meet your expectations.
3.- SATPRO Professional Smart Antenna Tracker
An exceptional product that you musthave.
It serves to increase the range of the radio system by incorporating high gain directional antennas and ensure the greatest possible coverage at all times.increasing security in missions.
Although your mission is not far away and you are only going 10 km away, sometimes you want to secure the UAV or drone as much as possible for various reasons, it may be the high cost of the payment cargo, the entire system in flight or the site where you should carry out the mission. Then it is best to use SATPRO.
Normally SATPRO is connected with a 7-meter RCBus cable to the GCSD5 and ethernet for video, but the latest versions that we are preparing for early 2024 now allow using only ethernet or fiber optics to link it and it can be placed much further away, hundreds of meters or severalKms especially for fixed systems.
The consumption of the SATPRO is very low to the point that with the built-in battery, it can work up to 10 hours depending on the system configuration, since if it has the video system it will last less.
If several peripherals are incorporated and consume, this isn’t a problem because in addition to the battery being easily interchangeable, it can also be powered from the outside with batteries or power supplies.
SATPRO can mount different types of antennas according to need, the arms are removable and the antennas can also be mounted only in the central part.
In the SATPRO, the RC and telemetry data links are mounted, as well as the video link, in order to use very short cables for the antennas and not have losses, this is very noticeable in the final radio link result.
4.- Tripod for SATPRO
SATPRO for portable systems dispose of tripod Light, robust, with a good finish and easy to transport with its padded case and includes very useful accessories such as slings to fix the tripod to the ground in case it is windy or simply to secure the antenna tracker.
Moving SATPRO and its accessories is no problem since it has very robust suitcases with custom-made interior foam.
5.- XVHD-SAT Long range digital Full HD video
It consists of the XVRE professional receiver and the XVTR transmitter plus the 8W XBOOST24G8 to reach up to 150Km. with a time delay of only 250ms.
The Interface with video cameras is HDMI or Ethernet. With ODFM modulation and H264/H265 codec, Frequency: 2.4Ghz fixed or FHSS.
Designed specifically for the SATPRO antenna tracker. Being very close to the antennas, the coaxial cable has the lowest possible RF loss. Interface and power from the SATPRO.
6.- BTSD1R_V3 Long Range Redundant Data Link for RC and Telemetry.
This Data Link together with a 9dBm BQ89 antenna can provide ranges of more than 200Km.
For the combination that we are talking about in this article, an antenna with more gain would not be necessary since HD video gives us a more limited range of up to 150Km.
In any case, if we want more range (250Km or more) we can use 15dBi yagi antennas, for example.
It has an internal 5Ah battery. Optionally it can be powered from SATPRO. Connects to SATPRO via RCBus.
In redundant system it has two independent WMX481 RF modules with their own microcontroller. They can operate on different bands or separate channels.
The redundant system has the capacity to operate in real time at the packet level or in switched mode, depending on needs.
The data link need two RXLRS receivers interconnected on the drone or UAV for redundant system.
