The new D5 Series Ground Control Station is larger and more powerful than the GCSD4, with a 15.6″ high brightness display and a powerful PC and new XLRS systems technology for 2022.
Some of the news:
[ps2id id=’GCSD5′ target=”/]New Ground Control Station D5:
It is prepared for flights of longer duration and range than the GCSD4, the battery lasts for 6h, having a specific controller for the battery and control of the power systems on the ground and in the UAV.
There is a version with the built-in RF transmitter, although it is designed to be used with SATPRO, our powerful tracker antenna.
The Radio Control and telemetry system are independent of the PC and have their own microcontrollers, this increases security against system outages or crashes from the PC.
You can use Full HD Digital Video or optionally Analog Video, there is an internal 5.8Ghz receiver in case of using analog video.
The video is in SATPRO and is independent of the PC and the Radio Control system.
GCSD5 communicates with SATPRO wirelessly by WIFI and Wireless HDMI without delay and if you need cable by ethernet and HDMI.
The displays of Radio control and telemetry are TFT IPS color and high resolution.
The connections ethernet, USB, etc… they are on the control panel and are easily accessible.
Longer-lasting LiOn battery can be charged with the supplied charger or with any standard charger.
[ps2id id=’Instrumentals’ target=”/]Instruments. New concept:
All displays are IPS color and can change functionality, also the central display is touch and with a dedicated GPU.In previous versions the displays had specific fixed functionalities.
Each display can independently view avionics instruments adapted from any part of the system.
For example, the central display can display a combo with artificial horizon, altimeter, speed, RF coverage and some more parameters, it can be selected to display only the Power part, flight batteries, the suitcase, the Smart Antenna tracker, times, consumptions, etc. The small 1.5″ displays meanwhile can view only the RF part, another can view the status of the system, alarms, etc.
This generates redundancy and increases the reliability of the system since if the PC fails, any display can display Mavlink telemetry or if one of the displays fails, another display can cover the desired function.

GCSD5RI
The GCSD5 has the built-in radio modem.
Options:
Without Video: It is used for automatic flights without video, with manual controls for emergencies or manual takeoffs / landings.
With Analog Video: This option isn’t usual. You can use video receiver RXVID3, it is cheaper than digital video and it reaches more, but the image does not have as much quality and it can’t be used in some countries.
The effective range can be increased with a tripod by connecting a high gain antenna through the RF cable.
GCSD5ST
The GCSD5 does not have a radio modem, uses SATPRO, Smart Antenna Tracker Professional.
If you want to get the best performance and range you have to use SATPRO the professional tracker antenna with the radio modem for RC and telemetry and digital video incorporated.
Video Options:
Digital Video: 30Km or 50Km.
Analog Video: 100Km.
Tracker Options:
Portable with tripod.
Fixed for vehicle.
For Fixed installation (Without Tripod).
[ps2id id=’Comparison’ target=”/]Comparison GCSD5 vs GCSD4V3:
GCSD5 is prepared for flights of longer duration and range than GCSD4.
It is bigger and more comfortable for long flights, GCSD5: 51×41.9×21.5cm | GCSD4: 36.5×29.4x17cm.
The PC is much more powerful.
- The Ethernet goes 10 times faster, 1Gb and the D4 goes to 100Mb.
- Displays, switches and buttons have more space.
- The display for video is 15.6″ versus 10″ for the GCSD4.
- The battery lasts 6h compared to 4h.
- It has an additional joystick to control the observer’s camera (Gimbal).
- The internal technology is similar.
[ps2id id=’SATPRO’ target=”/]SATPRO. Professional Smart Antenna Tracker:
Now the radio ranges are more easily achievable by the pilot since he can connect to the new professional SATPRO, Smart Antenna Tracker and carry out automatic tracking of the aircraft or vehicle with high gain antennas.
The arm that supports the antennas is removable and allows to put various combinations of antennas as necessary. The antennas are easily assembled and disassembled.
Video:
Some applications or missions only need radio control and telemetry, most need video for the pilot and others also need video for the observer.
GCSD5 without video. The 17″ video monitor acts as the 2nd monitor for the PC.
GCSD5 with Full HD Digital Video. Most common option.
GCSD5 with Analog Video. Less common option, you should go little by little to digital video.
The new Full HD Digital Video system is included in the Smart Antenna Tracker and can reach 30km or more than 50km according to configurations.
It works at 2.4Ghz (other optional bands) and has a delay of 0.2sec.
It is prepared with an HDMI output to connect by cable to the GCSD4 / GCSD5 or without cable with a wireless adapter without delay with a range of up to 30m.
RXVID analog video is very inexpensive and long-range, has less resolution and is only licensed with low power in some countries. The cameras are usually cheap.
The analog video is transmitted from the antennas to the GCSD4 on a 5.8Ghz channel, so it doesn’t need a cable, although it has an AV output if necessary.
Analog video should be abandoned little by little and switch to digital video if the budget allows it.
